Liquid Probiotics

Probiotics are “live microorganisms that confer a health benefit on the host when eaten in sufficient quantities as part of food,” according to the World Health Organization. That may sound confusing, but a probiotic is a living bacteria that offers health benefits when consumed in large enough amounts.

This is because the gut microbiota (also known as the “gut microbiome”) comprises a diverse population of bacteria. In your microbiota, there is a delicate balance of “healthy” and “poor” bacteria, and adding more good bacteria (probiotics) tips the balance toward more good bacteria.

Probiotics can also be used in a variety of foods. The most well-known source is yoghurt, but they can also be found in:

Buttermilk, some soft cheeses, fermented milk, and kefir are examples of dairy foods. Miso and tempeh are examples of soy drinks and products. Kimchi, sauerkraut, and a variety of pickles are among the many pickles available.

Liquid Probiotics: The Facts

Liquid probiotics can be consumed in a variety of ways. Drinks like kombucha and kvass, for example, contain some naturally occurring probiotics.

However, there are products on the market that include probiotics in drinks.

If you use a product that takes a specific probiotic strain and blends it into a liquid probiotic, you can be more specific about which probiotic strain you’re taking; when you drink a naturally-occurring liquid probiotic like kombucha, you have less control about this.

The probiotic strain is important to think about because it decides how a probiotic affects your body. Some probiotic strains, for example, are great for skin health, while others are ideal for digestive health.
